The broken record
Might I suggest something? Given the ravenous appetite for rumors concerning Web 2.0 acquisitions, in which the latest hot start-up is forced to answer in the negative almost daily as to whether a tech giant is purchasing it, I think it may be more efficient to streamline the “No” statements into one centralized location. This way when the Gizmodos come knocking, armed with the anonymous email or message board comment exclaiming the latest “rumor” that Google is buying Digg/Twitter/Friendfeed, there’s no need to waste an employee’s time. Here are two suggestions.
1. Your voicemail message: “Thank you for calling the offices of [insert company]. If you would like to [insert task], press 1. If you would like to [insert task], press 2. If you’re calling to see if Google/Yahoo/Facebook/News Corp/Apple is buying Twitter, No, it isn’t.
2. Register the domain http://IsAppleBuyingTwitter and populate it with a single word: NO.
