Picking out the best blogs
Content publishing is huge. Blog Herald (popular blog news site) put the number of existing blogs in millions, and that was in early 2005. Personally, throwing out the spammers, I still think that we have more than enough blogs out there to keep us busy reading for several lifetimes.
So how do you pick the best blogs to read? And from Bloggasm’s perspective, how do we pick out the most interesting blogs to profile, rant and rave (and occasionally criticize) about?
Finding something interesting is easy. Shining a spotlight on it is easy as well. But bringing it out of obscurity and then showing it to the rest of the world so that people actually stop and listen?
That’s bloody near impossible.
Social bookmarking usually works well in the beginning, but as the user base expands the signal to noise ratio skews to the far right and we’re again left with too much information clamoring for our attention.
People are increasingly turning towards automated solutions for providing them the most relevant and latest news on the topics they are interested in. In return, these automated solutions (e.g. search engines and news engines) are placing their trust in highly-trusted and qualified individuals (read humans) to provide them the news and information (e.g. the restricted publisher program for Google News).
The end result – we will always be depending on other smart people to help us make the smart choices in knowing what to read and what not to read. In our cluttered world where advertising and information leap out of every corner, we need other peoples’ expertise and knowledge.
The question is – can Bloggasm do the same for you? Only time will tell.
But just as importantly…how do you make your blog into a must-read resource for your visitors?
