Re: Robert

Yeah, I think I remember reading that piece on Russert -- I have mixed feelings on him. I think sometimes he does genuinely go after his guests, but as The Washington Monthly points out, it's sometimes on the cheap.

Re: Terry

Yeah, I don't often stream whole episodes on my computer, it's not worth the risk of having my browser lock up, although I do often watch video clips. I must say, though, I miss my Daily Show and Colbert Report.

See also this great piece about Tim Russert . (As Tom tomorrow summarizes: – Tim Russert’s entire shtick consists of “gotcha!” He seemed to spend the entire evening trying to trip the candidates up in one minor inconsistency or another. “In old photographs, you appear to be younger — but now you are clearly older! Explain THAT!”

Amazingly, I am finding the weekly pbs shows (especially McLaughlin Group--don't laugh!) to provide lots of insights (if the shouting doesn't bother you). In TV news coverage, more is not better.

I think it's just bad TV in general, nothing to do with cable.

I used to get Australia Pay TV (we don't have cable in Oz, it's all picked up by satellites) and used to be crap. Free to air TV was no better. Everybody plays it safe cause noone knows what directions the wind will change. This was especially noticable last year with our national elections. Current affairs show pretty much "sucking off" the Prime Minister next week are showing a "fair" article about how he's losing power because he's too old fashioned.

My advice? Get yourself a decent internet with a fair download limit and hook up your 360 to your home network. The only time normal TV is on in my house is when my family comes to visit.
