Interview with Liberal Oasis

Bill Scher, the blogger behind LiberalOasis.com, can be heard most Monday nights on Air America Radio’s “The Majority Report.” His first book, “Wait! Don’t Move To Canada!” will be published by Rodale in the fall.

Simon Owens: Which conservative bloggers do you think create the most spin? And if you had to pick a conservative blogger to label a worthy adversary, which blogger would that be?

Bill Scher: I can’t answer directly because I rarely read conservative blogs. I keep an eye on them, just enough so I know what they’re up to. But, like the rest of the conservative movement, they are so fundamentally intellectually dishonest that they are not worth much of my time.

(Fun Fact: Michelle Malkin was my editor in college)

SO: In the 2008 elections, which potential Republican candidate do you think will be hardest to beat in the presidential election?

BS: John McCain. I wrote recently at The Huffington Post that “[h]is potential to lure Dems and independents into unwittingly voting for a continuation of our disastrous foreign policy course … makes him the most dangerous man in America.” Having said that, if liberals can shine a bright light on his foreign policy vision, and can articulate a compelling alternative foreign policy vision, McCain will lose the Democratic and independent support he now has.

SO: As more and more people flock to the internet where facts and information are readily available, do you think this will help the liberal cause?

BS: The internet is a tool. It can used well or poorly, for good or for ill. The internet can be used to quickly move around true, factual information, and it can be used to quickly move around smears and falsehoods. When truth does triumph, it is good for the liberal cause. But the internet is not a magical place where truth always triumphs. Both liberals and conservatives are learning how to use the internet tool. May the best team win.

SO: What are the five blogs everyone should be reading (besides your own)?

BS: Balkinization

Coalition For Darfur

Feministing

Just World News
