HuffPo blogger pulls down post claiming Palin is trying to spread “retardation”
After Alaska Governor Sarah Palin announced today that she would step down the news made front page headlines and quickly spread online. But another story concerning Palin also cropped up: A Huffington Post blogger named Erik Nelson, whose bio states that he has “written for several comedy websites and published short fiction while living in the deep South,” published a “satirical” post claiming that Palin was trying to spread “retardation” across America. The post specifically referenced her son Trig.
After outraged bloggers and Twitter users began linking to the piece, it was pulled from the site. Thinking that HuffPo editors were the ones that pulled it, I emailed Nelson to request the interview.
Here was his response:

No story, I pulled it down. I got some emails from offended loved ones of the retarded. No one was seeing the absurdity of Palin hiding behind her children, so my piece was not accomplishing anything good. That’s all that happened.

I have never understood this need to personally destroy the lives of public figures with which one disagrees. However, it does seem to be a consistent, “progressive” principle. They can keep it.

I thought the campaign was over but clearly you need to run “mean spirit†jabs to keep the art form hot. If you did any thing from this blast of flame, it did nothing but polarize people to be more leery of what is being published under your name. I filed this under “unfounded opportunistic blatherâ€Â. You have let the reader down large scale. Good writing is a trust. If there is anything we look for in any publication or from any writer is accurate information that is weighted on the substance not the distortion of a bad night on the town.

Erik is a disgusting sewer rat that spews garbage. I hope one day his “loved ones” get the same treatment although I bet he doesn’t have any loved ones.
Very sad but that what we got when “they” voted the other sewer rats into office.
Erik – why in the world has Huff shut down all comments on all your write-ups? Not that there were many to begin with, six in the last year, but hey, if there was no story, why would they do that?

Thanks so much for doing that. the beauty of the internet is that no matter how quick you pull it down it resides in my and others cache. You will never be able to bury it or disavow it.
