Does anyone know how to do a screen grab?

Hey, does anyone out there know how to do a screen grab? For instance, if I want to take out a slice of something that I see in my browser window from a website and save it as an image, how do I do this? What if I don’t want to grab the whole screen but a very specified part of the screen?

I currently use Firefox. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Just leave the answer in my comments section.

See: the internet had the answer all along:

“Of course the Mac’s built in command-shift-3 and command-shift-4 is satisfactory for most purposes but if you need something more or have a particularly tricky screen to capture, one of these programs might help.”

    further knowledge:
    “Macintosh Screen Capture

Besides the standard screen dump, there are other ways to capture the screen.

If you have Mac OSX, it’s easy to use the built-in key commands for grabbing a screen.

    * Press Command (Apple)-Shift-4. The pointer turns into a bull’s eye.
    * Select the area of the screen you wish to capture. The screen is captured and saved as a PDF file called Picture 1 on your hard drive.
    * If you hold down the Control key in addition to the Command (Apple)-Shirt-4 while clicking the bull’s eye, the image is stored on the clipboard.

If you have Mac OSX, you can also use the Grab Utility. This allows you to capture windows that are open.

    * Open Grab (located in Applications/Utility).
    * Choose Capture > Timed Screen.
    * When the Timed Screen Grab dialog opens, click Start Timer.
    * Click the menu you want to capture and keep the mouse button pressed until the Timer Screen Grab dialog closes and the picture appears.”

A colleage of mine recommends SnagIt, which you can use on a trial basis but have to pay for to keep. If you’re interested in a non-paid approach, Print Screen will do the job. Just hit Print Screen, paste it into your favorite image editor, crop, and save. If you don’t have an image editor you like, just save the image to Paint, upload it to an online utility like Picnik, and crop there.

    Hope this helps. :)

i love Wisdom-soft ScreenHunter 5.0. Download it for free. After that hit F6, grab what you want with the left mouse button. Let go and it drops onto your desktop.

    Couldn’t be more simple.

In Windows, first press F11 to enlarge your browser. Then click Control+PrintScreen. That copied the image on your screen, even what’s outside of the browser. Then paste it into a graphics program like Paint and crop it down.

Try Gadwin Print Screen. It’s very easy to use and the screen shot capture is quite clear.
