Brody Ruckus is a fake

Remember my posts about Brody Ruckus, the guy who started a facebook group so that he could convince his girlfriend to have a threesome with him? Well, like I originally guessed, it was a fake. Many have speculated that it’s a marketing campaign for a Napster-like website.

From one Facebook group:

Just to get the record straight, this is a real group! I am not supporting “RUCKUS MUSIC”

Do you really think that this guy is for real? I don’t! This whole thing is an add for Ruckus Music. It is a new music download thing like Napster, but it is only for college students. This is all a lie to get as many people to join the group as possible. Why do you think he wont allow people to become friends so they can check out his BOGUS profil. There is no profil. He is a fake and he should be stopped!

I know that most of you won’t believe me and I don’t care. I have looked into this and I know that its true. So, lets blow his group out of the water.

I belive that if people start leaving his group, he will be more apt to proving this so called threesome is going to happen. But, this is only a small attempt to stop these liars from getting us to join there groups for their own hidden agendas.

Lets stop him!! Or demand proof!!!

Why dont you go ahead and ask.com ” Ruckus Music”

Still more:

1) Unorginal. It’s been pointed out by multiple people that this EXACT SAME BUSINESS PLOY has been used many times over. No, it’s not the “best thing that’s ever happened,” because it’s happened (which is to say, the same scam was used, not that anyone went through with anything sexually) before…and still was lame. For example, this guy said if his website got X number of hits his girlfriend would agree to partake in the coveted menage a trois:
http://www.helpwinmybet.co
m/
A British website created the same scam, now members of the website have to pay to see sexy footage:
http://www.richardandkatie
.co.uk/
(But I’d like to point out: EXACT SAME PREMISE)
You’ll notice in BOTH CASES that in the end the whole COMPLETELY SIMILAR premise was to promote a website or product, it generated a lot of publicity, then dropped off the face of the planet as you actually had to pay to get anything promised… big surprise.
1b) Many posters have commented that they think the Ruckus group is fun, even if they recognize is a scam….especially for the “fun threads” its created. Congratulations, I’m glad you’ve now found a home for your “spit vs. swallow” forum and just to remind you: YOU’RE A STUPID SLUT. Again, see above for how you are destroying society.
2) Completely obvious. All right, anyone with half a brain knows Brody Ruckus isn’t a college guy or even a real person. He WAS allegedly from a Georgia school, but students confirmed no such person as “Brody Ruckus” existed EVER and somehow his network changed to Atlanta, GA. I highly doubt that he or his girlfriend are real people. This “guy” conveniently shares his last name, Ruckus, with the music-sharing company Ruckus Music, that markets its services directly to college students. In fact, Georgia Tech (the school Brody was allegedly from) is a “partner school” of Ruckus music, meaning downloads from them are available for free or at discounted rates.
(See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wi
ki/Ruckus_Network) Also, the graduated system in which the group operates reeks of a capitalist ploy: at 100,000 a threesome, wait…let’s hold out until 300,000 for pictures…or wait, biggest Facebook group ever? Free video. The group will obviously grow as large as possible to attract the largest amount of potential consumers and then the “video” will INEVITABLY be available for purchase through Ruckus Music. Not to mention the fact they are already making a killing off the whole scam in merchandising. Look at the official website: http://www.brodyruckusthre
esome.com/brodyruckusthree
some/. Notice it contains a DIRECT LINK to product? Yeah. Many posters have said, “Who cares? I just won’t buy it.” NO, NO, NO, you stupid douche. Your mere support of this group is ruining Facebook.
3) This group and others like it are destroying Facebook. Everyone loves to bitch about the new mini-feed and the fact Zuckerberg has opened Facebook to the public and it will essentially become the next MySpace. These next moves make sense, as all the changes on Facebook have been made to broaden its consumer base. Yes, I too miss the old Facebook for college students only, a private network that allowed you to keep in touch with everyone from high school. I cherished it intially, reflecting on the fact that the digital revolution that facilitated Facebook allowed me to keep track of all my friends and acquaintances from high school in a way my parents, only one generation before me, could not. But of course, capitalism had to creep in–high school Facebook, then city networks, and finally, free and open to the public. But you know WHY this has happened? Because of the AMAZING success of groups like Ruckus. You, Brodlings, are fueling the downfall of Facebook by submitting blindly to its inevitable foray into capitalism, whether you ultimately give money to Ruckus Music or not. ANY Ruckus group member that bitches about Facebook changes is not only a stupid douche but a HYPOCRITE. If you hadn’t stupidly bought things off this site, it would have had little growing to do and perhaps resisted capitalism a little less. BRODLINGS, FACEBOOK SUCKING IS YOU AND YOUR KIND’S FAULT.

Facebook group has reached 100,000 members, Brody Ruckus Guaranteed a threesome

UPDATE: Brody Ruckus is a fake (click on that link to get the scoop)

Remember my post about the facebook user who started a facebook group so his girlfriend would agree to a threesome? Well, he reached his goal and she has agreed, and soon they’ll start an online “contest” so people can vote on which girl they pic. Here’s a video so everyone can get caught up on the whole situation:

I still haven’t joined the group, just watching as a passive observer.

If this guy were smart, rather than posting the video online for free, I’d charge 5 dollars to people who want to watch it. I bet with all the publicity this is getting, he’d make a chunk of change.

An Open Letter from Mark Zuckerberg: Creator of Facebook

We really messed this one up. When we launched News Feed and Mini-Feed we were trying to provide you with a stream of information about your social world. Instead, we did a bad job of explaining what the new features were and an even worse job of giving you control of them. I’d like to try to correct those errors now.

When I made Facebook two years ago my goal was to help people understand what was going on in their world a little better. I wanted to create an environment where people could share whatever information they wanted, but also have control over whom they shared that information with. I think a lot of the success we’ve seen is because of these basic principles.

We made the site so that all of our members are a part of smaller networks like schools, companies or regions, so you can only see the profiles of people who are in your networks and your friends. We did this to make sure you could share information with the people you care about. This is the same reason we have built extensive privacy settings – to give you even more control over who you share your information with.

Somehow we missed this point with Feed and we didn’t build in the proper privacy controls right away. This was a big mistake on our part, and I’m sorry for it. But apologizing isn’t enough. I wanted to make sure we did something about it, and quickly. So we have been coding nonstop for two days to get you better privacy controls. This new privacy page will allow you to choose which types of stories go into your Mini-Feed and your friends’ News Feeds, and it also lists the type of actions Facebook will never let any other person know about. If you have more comments, please send them over.

This may sound silly, but I want to thank all of you who have written in and created groups and protested. Even though I wish I hadn’t made so many of you angry, I am glad we got to hear you. And I am also glad that News Feed highlighted all these groups so people could find them and share their opinions with each other as well.

About a week ago I created a group called Free Flow of Information on the Internet, because that’s what I believe in – helping people share information with the people they want to share it with. I’d encourage you to check it out to learn more about what guides those of us who make Facebook. Tomorrow at 4pm est, I will be in that group with a bunch of people from Facebook, and we would love to discuss all of this with you. It would be great to see you there.

Thanks for taking the time to read this,

Mark

Anti-Facebook group members are now using it to solicit phone sex and other commercial ventures

I know this must be frustrating for readers who don’t have a Facebook account and can’t access Facebook, but I’ve developed an interest in this whole Facebook controversy, and have been watching it closely. By now, most should know that an Anti-Facebook group has popped up that now has close to 800,000 members (about to surpass the largest group in Facebook history), and as can be predicted, people are trying to use the wall of the group to spam it. It’s adding a lot of clutter, with several hundred wall posts being posted per minute. You’ll see several posts like this one:

OR CALL 2174155340 FOR SUPER HOT ORGASMIC SEX

Several user icons like this one have shown up: fuck facebook

Several other posts try to get people to join other Facebook groups, some with similar causes, some that are just plain stupid. It has really turned into a monkey house and waters down the seriousness of the group’s cause.

A lot of mainstream journalists have tried to portray these students as serious activists, who are finally shaping up and caring for a change. But in reality, it’s just become a kind of “hip” thing and nothing more. As someone who just graduated college, I’m well aware of the hive or “frat boy” mentality that’s prevalant in the college culture. This facebook protest has just reached the tipping point and now students can feel like they’re cool by standing up for something they supposedly believe in.

Facebook users fight back

Well, it looks like I’m not the only one who thinks these new Facebook changes are too much. Facebook users have started a facebook group to protest the changes. It has been less than 24 hours since the changes have been made, and the group already has 976 members, and will likely grow from there. The group is called “Assembly Against the Addition of Mini-Feed,” and its description goes as follows:

Let’s face it, Facebook is kind of conducive to stalking…that’s why we love it. Still, just because we ocassionaly want to know a “little more” about people than we should doesn’t mean we want people to know that “little more” about us. The Mini-Feed has taken Facebook stalking several steps to far here are some examples of the detrimental effects of the Mini-Feed.

Example 1: Your best friend calls, you aren’t really doing anything at the time but you just aren’t really in the mood to talk. You make a polite excuse and continue on with your day. Ten minutes later you make a comment on someones photo…now your best friend thinks facebook is more important than him/her-Thank you Mini-Feed!

Example 2: Your boyfriend/girlfriend can now see that drunken comment you left a random person of the opposite sex telling them how hot they are. Thank you Mini-Feed!

Example 3: That creepy person from your school that nobody really likes but you add because you feel bad for can now pinpoint your location. Thank you Mini-Feed!

As this group grows, Facebook employees will not be able to ignore it for long. Let’s see how long it takes before these features are taken off the site.

UPDATE: It appears that there are actually several facebook groups that oppose the feed. The biggest one now has over 100,000 members, making it one of the largest groups in facebook history, all in less than 24 hours.

ANOTHER UPDATE: Facebook responds:

We’ve been getting a lot of feedback about Mini-Feed and News Feed. We think they are great products, but we know that many of you are not immediate fans, and have found them overwhelming and cluttered. Other people are concerned that non-friends can see too much about them. We are listening to all your suggestions about how to improve the product; it’s brand new and still evolving.

We’re not oblivious of the Facebook groups popping up about this (by the way, Ruchi is not the devil). And we agree, stalking isn’t cool; but being able to know what’s going on in your friends’ lives is. This is information people used to dig for on a daily basis, nicely reorganized and summarized so people can learn about the people they care about. You don’t miss the photo album about your friend’s trip to Nepal. Maybe if your friends are all going to a party, you want to know so you can go too. Facebook is about real connections to actual friends, so the stories coming in are of interest to the people receiving them, since they are significant to the person creating them.

We didn’t take away any privacy options. [Your privacy options remain the same.] The privacy rules haven’t changed. None of your information is visible to anyone who couldn’t see it before the changes. If you turned off your wall to non-friends, no one who is not your friend will be able to see a post on your wall. Your friends can still see it; it hasn’t changed. Secret groups and secret events remain secret from other people. Pokes and messages remain as private interactions. Nothing you do is being broadcast; rather, it is being shared with people who care about what you do—your friends.

We’re going to continue to improve Facebook, and we want you to be part of that process. Test out the products and continue to provide us feedback. Use your privacy settings so you can feel most comfortable using the site.

We hear you, and we appreciate the feedback.

Stay tuned… Mark
