Brody Ruckus is a fake
Remember my posts about Brody Ruckus, the guy who started a facebook group so that he could convince his girlfriend to have a threesome with him? Well, like I originally guessed, it was a fake. Many have speculated that it’s a marketing campaign for a Napster-like website.
From one Facebook group:
Just to get the record straight, this is a real group! I am not supporting “RUCKUS MUSIC”
Do you really think that this guy is for real? I don’t! This whole thing is an add for Ruckus Music. It is a new music download thing like Napster, but it is only for college students. This is all a lie to get as many people to join the group as possible. Why do you think he wont allow people to become friends so they can check out his BOGUS profil. There is no profil. He is a fake and he should be stopped!
I know that most of you won’t believe me and I don’t care. I have looked into this and I know that its true. So, lets blow his group out of the water.
I belive that if people start leaving his group, he will be more apt to proving this so called threesome is going to happen. But, this is only a small attempt to stop these liars from getting us to join there groups for their own hidden agendas.
Lets stop him!! Or demand proof!!!
Why dont you go ahead and ask.com ” Ruckus Music”
Still more:
1) Unorginal. It’s been pointed out by multiple people that this EXACT SAME BUSINESS PLOY has been used many times over. No, it’s not the “best thing that’s ever happened,” because it’s happened (which is to say, the same scam was used, not that anyone went through with anything sexually) before…and still was lame. For example, this guy said if his website got X number of hits his girlfriend would agree to partake in the coveted menage a trois:
http://www.helpwinmybet.co
m/
A British website created the same scam, now members of the website have to pay to see sexy footage:
http://www.richardandkatie
.co.uk/
(But I’d like to point out: EXACT SAME PREMISE)
You’ll notice in BOTH CASES that in the end the whole COMPLETELY SIMILAR premise was to promote a website or product, it generated a lot of publicity, then dropped off the face of the planet as you actually had to pay to get anything promised… big surprise.
1b) Many posters have commented that they think the Ruckus group is fun, even if they recognize is a scam….especially for the “fun threads” its created. Congratulations, I’m glad you’ve now found a home for your “spit vs. swallow” forum and just to remind you: YOU’RE A STUPID SLUT. Again, see above for how you are destroying society.
2) Completely obvious. All right, anyone with half a brain knows Brody Ruckus isn’t a college guy or even a real person. He WAS allegedly from a Georgia school, but students confirmed no such person as “Brody Ruckus” existed EVER and somehow his network changed to Atlanta, GA. I highly doubt that he or his girlfriend are real people. This “guy” conveniently shares his last name, Ruckus, with the music-sharing company Ruckus Music, that markets its services directly to college students. In fact, Georgia Tech (the school Brody was allegedly from) is a “partner school” of Ruckus music, meaning downloads from them are available for free or at discounted rates.
(See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wi
ki/Ruckus_Network) Also, the graduated system in which the group operates reeks of a capitalist ploy: at 100,000 a threesome, wait…let’s hold out until 300,000 for pictures…or wait, biggest Facebook group ever? Free video. The group will obviously grow as large as possible to attract the largest amount of potential consumers and then the “video” will INEVITABLY be available for purchase through Ruckus Music. Not to mention the fact they are already making a killing off the whole scam in merchandising. Look at the official website: http://www.brodyruckusthre
esome.com/brodyruckusthree
some/. Notice it contains a DIRECT LINK to product? Yeah. Many posters have said, “Who cares? I just won’t buy it.” NO, NO, NO, you stupid douche. Your mere support of this group is ruining Facebook.
3) This group and others like it are destroying Facebook. Everyone loves to bitch about the new mini-feed and the fact Zuckerberg has opened Facebook to the public and it will essentially become the next MySpace. These next moves make sense, as all the changes on Facebook have been made to broaden its consumer base. Yes, I too miss the old Facebook for college students only, a private network that allowed you to keep in touch with everyone from high school. I cherished it intially, reflecting on the fact that the digital revolution that facilitated Facebook allowed me to keep track of all my friends and acquaintances from high school in a way my parents, only one generation before me, could not. But of course, capitalism had to creep in–high school Facebook, then city networks, and finally, free and open to the public. But you know WHY this has happened? Because of the AMAZING success of groups like Ruckus. You, Brodlings, are fueling the downfall of Facebook by submitting blindly to its inevitable foray into capitalism, whether you ultimately give money to Ruckus Music or not. ANY Ruckus group member that bitches about Facebook changes is not only a stupid douche but a HYPOCRITE. If you hadn’t stupidly bought things off this site, it would have had little growing to do and perhaps resisted capitalism a little less. BRODLINGS, FACEBOOK SUCKING IS YOU AND YOUR KIND’S FAULT.http://gsu.facebook.com/gr

So, in conclusion, this guy:
is one of these:
aka, a Tool

I don’t get why anyone really cares if Brody Ruckus is a fake… Isn’t it more the principle of what he stands for that we all like anyway….The THREESOME…. His voting site is up and live…
Quit bitching
how could people *not* have seen that he was a fake?
Anyway, I don’t think “Brody Ruckus,” had anything to do with “Ruckus” music, anyway. That, at least, was coincidental–people who believe that are pulling it out of their butts, just because his last name is the same as the site. whatever, that’s not evidence.
I dont understand why ruckus would use him/this acct to promote ruckus music when I already have an account and all college students can access music at Ruckus.com for FREE. We can download for free as long as you have a valid university email. I have never had to pay a penny. Yes they advertise but I dont think they had anything to do with this because college Ruckus is Free strictly for college students. It doesnt make any sense…
Hmm, the coincidences are too much to not think this is a scam. Georgia tech has been Ruckus’s best customer so far. (http://www.nique.net/issues/2006-09-01/news/2) Georgia tech signed their contract with ruckus at the beginning of this school year which was two weeks before the formation of the brody ruckus group which coincidentally was on the same day that facebook started the whole news feed shit that pissed everyone off thus bringing alot of people online at the same time. (See where I’m getting at?) Of course, advertising is all about name recognition. So alot of people where also probably googling brody ruckus which obviously brings name recognition to ruckus.com. And yes, it does matter that more students are aware of ruckus.com even if we as students are not directly paying for their services. This is because the university pays for the contract to have the ruckus server on campus. And as we all know the university gets its money to pay for this server from trees. Not only that, guess what organization pushed for georgia tech to bring the server on campus? The student government association. where does the student government get the idea to do something? from the student body of course! *light bulb light bulb* So if other students from other universities also hear about ruckus.com, then their student governments will also push for their school to sign a contract with ruckus.com. Thus making ruckus.com lots of dinero. that just about says it. I’m out.
oh yea, and mark zuckerburg is clearly sucking ruckus’s penis in the threesome. Not to mention Georgia Tech’s as well.
I’ll buy most of what you have to say. However, saying that by joining this group people are opening facebook to capitalism is just dumb. By saying that you’re pretty much saying that if college students had refused to do anything like this that facebook would have remained unchanged. However, the nature of capitalism is to expand no matter what. Facebook would want to expand it’s customer base whether or not some college students would purchase something from a facebook group.
I would be interested to see how many stupid douches actually forked out their (or their parents’) hard-earned cash for a ‘Brody Ruckus is my f*cking god’ or whatever T-shirt….
Whoever they are should be named and shamed and become Mark Zuckerberg’s personal bitches.
Found this blog when Googling ‘brody ruckus’ — thought you might get a kick outta this piece of information.
I’ve been making and selling Brody themed t-shirts on Cafe Press since this whole group got big… and looking through the transactions the other day, I notice somone who orders a Women’s Pink T-shirt…
…. None other than Mark Zuckerberg’s (creator of Facebook) little sister Randi. I found this hilarious and reaking with irony.
Sadly, this is 100% true.
Heh, that’s pretty far out. How many t-shirts have you sold?
Whether or not Ruckus Music involved is not that important at this point. What is important is the massive amounts of positive publicity this is giving them. By students, like those who posted above, going around name dropping Ruckus Music it only becomes embedded in the college student’s psyche.
Personally, I think it’s brilliant. Ruckus Music didnt come out and say directly they were involved because then they would’ve received backlash for that.
Instead, they remain quiet while there are 1000’s of you people out there debating and talking about it on facebook, blogs like this, dorm rooms, classes and amongst all your friends.
It’s f’ing genius if you ask me. In fact, I’m going to go to their website right now and request that they come to MY school.
Hell, I may even contact Ruckus’ marketing department to organize my own threesome.
My theory is this… the name Brody Ruckus was made up to be an advertising scheme for Ruckus music. What happened is that some one from Ruckus Music created this “Brody Ruckus” profile and the threesome group in order to attract lots of attention from college students on Facebook (which it did).
After lots of people had already joined the group, Ruckus music officials secretly started posting information on the internet claiming that it was a “marketing scam for Ruckus Music.” This however was the marketing scam.
Ruckus Music was creating exactly what they wanted, lots of hype about their website. They could care less about the facebook group because I’m sure the number of people checking out the Ruckus Music website skyrocketed.
This move by Ruckus was brilliant because for them it meant connection with hundreds of thousands of college students for free. If you ask me, Ruckus knows what they are doing no matter how unethical/shady it is.
Those are good theories. If true, then I have been duped and fell right into their scheme.
Although, if the marketing scheme is to be portrayed as marketing scheme, they’re essentially leaving a bad taste in our mouths in turn for free publicity. It begs the question as to whether or not the saying is true: “Any publicity is good publicity.”
by the way, evan, your comment is completely idoitic.
I think Evan’s post is astroturf, which means that whoever is heading this marketing scheme is going to different blogs to post comments linking back to “Brody’s” site. That guy had a whole bunch of links in his comment to places where you can buy brody gear, and I went through and erased them. These fake commenters are trying to act like Brody stands for some kind of political metaphor and that’s why we should have renewed faith in his name despite the fact that he’s nothing but a big lie.
Thanks for not being an idiot like…well, when I was invited, it was up around 180,000 people. I also thought it was a fake, due to the incessant raising of the bar, as well as the other peculiarities you mentioned. Thanks for having an intelligent blog discussing not only the asininity of hundreds of thousands of “higher-education” students, but also the ubiquitous shadow of commercialization and capitalization that looms over every good (and free) thing. May I post a link on my Facebook profile to this page?
I realize this thread is kind of old, but I did want to comment on one part: “facebook will be just like MySpace”.
That’s ridiculous. Facebook will never make me squint to read someone’s interests in pink curly font with a distorted Britney Spears background. It will never crash my computer. It will never unexpectantly blare out music on my computer at work. Also, I can search for my friend “John Smith” without knowing his alter ego “Big Daddy G 85″.
I am so happy I no longer have to search for my long lost high school friends on MySpace. They’re still cool, even if they didn’t go to college.
And my parents will NEVER see my facebook profile, because my privacy settings can prevent it. Duh.
Wow, I just Googled my name and this came up.
Thanks for quoting me on your blog, wow.
